Marinelle the Wicked - The General of Certainty

So we start now to behold the first, perhaps even the Leader, of all of the Generals of System-M, second only to the core.

One would call her desire most fitting, for that smile of hers, always constant and barring, is the mark of the joy she must have felt when she had first entered.

Word goes around that in the grand city she once resided in, she was the Grand Secretariat to her former King, and the leader of the city's Elite Defense Force. They weren't anything spectacular, and if anything, people looked down on their knowledge and fondness of 'powers that did not exist' (i.e. magic) in favour of the army's modern weaponry, but they were quickly silenced by the results and powerful security that they provided. Nothing stopped them. They still stood firm in the face of any threats that attempted to destroy their way of living, guarding the grand walls, and did so for quite some time.

Until one day...it came.

Hoards of what appeared to be young girls dressed in absurd clothings came, armed with the very power that the city sneered. And with that power, they invaded the city, tore down its walls, consuming everything that stood in its place. The majestic machines the people relied on were all destroyed in a flash, and the glorious army fell along with the scraps of metal.

Without any choice left, the people requested Marinelle to finally use the unknown powers that they had been researching into, hoping they could fight fire with fire. While she was initially never amused by unnecessary knowledge that only her hopeless subordinate knew, she had to admit that it was all they could do to hold the fort. So they tried experimenting on the elements, pushing back these inane and disgusting 'soldiers'.

Yet, in the end, they were overpowered. But that was not the worst to come. As the siege continued and the days past, Marinelle could see that her hand over her own forces were weakening.

For you see, the proud Elite Defence Forces grew fearful, aware of their imminent failure, and aware that they were being defeated by demented youth...no...by the generation of a new kingdom.

With that fear of the monstrous abomination before them, they fled. Marinelle was only left with two loyal, lifelong comrades. And even then, with the siege closing in further and further, one comrade left in her anger to bring back every single traitor that abandoned them, while the other was desperately trying to master the powers that humanity knew little of to begin with.

And the great leader? She sat alone by the window of her watchtower, looking over the great forces that overwhelmed her whole city. Not even that useless King of hers, weak puppet that he was, wanted to move. Then again, neither did she, but she had decided to grasp at what strings she had with her own two hands, until...

"The Queen wishes to contract you for your services..."

The visitor was a peculiar one - a white creature of indiscernable species, and its only ethereal trademarks were a pair of white ears, a white tail and very human-like tailored pink garments. That was enough for Marinelle to ignore, just for a moment. She was clearly dreaming in her lucid depression. After all, there was no Queen. Only a...

That was when she realized that the Queen this messenger was referring to was the Queen of their enemies.

As any would, Marinelle was very ready to slay this obvious taunt, and let the so-called Queen know that such a manipulation tatic was outdated. What army would want to claim territory of another land, let alone convince the enemy forces into an allegiance, unless they were already suffering elsewhere?

...that was, of course, until through her eyes, she saw the truth.

The wicked commander saw a great power. The power to create miracles and give their fallen universe everything they needed to survive.

But more than miracles, there was an undeniable, unwavering strength in that. With the power to grant any wish, and with so many wishes granted, the output of magic was far beyond staggering. Matter not she once believed it to be a lost art studied only by wandering scholars like her comrade, it had now proved its worth in destruction.

Such was so was when the Queen herself, the core of the System itself, revealed to the lost souls before her, that they will only grow larger, and the planets they had already taken control of were but glimpses of the territory they would soon possess.

Yes, not kingdoms, as the commander was so used to, but entire planets and civilisations.

While it was only Murubey the servant who spoke of such wonders, it was as if its words were directly relayed from the master.

"I can see your whole history in your eyes. Much like I, you have been born with the divine right to rule, what the common folk recognize as true power. Yet here you are, without even a proper throne, and you have been betrayed by even your own failing hands."

"Those liabilities of yours feared that I was an Angel of Death. They couldn't have been further from the truth. I only bring the life that an individual so desires. And what's more, Magical Girls nowadays are kept immortal, in the prime of their youth and fulfilling their heart's wishes. Do you not see what you could become...General?"

"I can give you all the thrones in the world, to all the kingdoms and lands you have witnessed. All you have to do...is make a contract with me."

It was all too enthralling for Marinelle. The lust for power and control, to be on the side that will soon triumph over every faction, far more powerful than her now fallen army...

"Kuhahahahah...yes, yes! I shall serve your rule, System-M, with my entire being! Under my lead, every wish and command shall be fulfilled, and nothing will ever stand in our path...!"

When the next sun rose, the city fell and rose, along with the one who always desired the true face of its leadership...

On the surface, Marinelle will appear to be...quite a collected lady. She has a calm and cool demeanor, always speaking with a smooth finesse in contrast with many of her persistent rivals. You can rarely tell what she is thinking, but at the same time, you can almost feel as if you should trust her. Indeed, for all her subordinates, except perhaps her life-long 'sisters', The Executioner and Sophia Floros, they all feel entrusted to one thing she offers: Protection.

As she approaches new contractees, she promises them all the same: That if they swear under the System, she, as their new Commander, not only will all their desires be fulfilled, but she shall protect them from all threats...

Threats like her own Generals.

This is of course, a half-truth. In many situations, she will send the other Generals, usually The Executioner, to cause mayhem and chaos, before approaching the poor victims with contracts. Should they later realize the folly and demand a reason for such lying behavior, she uses the next most effective method.

Punishment.

Such is her modus operandi. Obeying gains you Marinelle's protection. Disobeying gains you her punishment. There will be no speaking or even contemplating of conflict and rebellion, for the certainty of peace and safety must be kept, and anyone who disrupts and abuses their newfound power should be disciplined. This routine of hers only invites more paranoia as one realizes what else she is capable of.

The claws that you see above act like her third and fourth hands. Though detachable, Marinelle keeps them on for most of her time, their innate ability to rip apart and shred any obstruction in her path intimidating the common eye. Yet, much like a scorpion's monstrous form, their exaggerated size is only meant to distract you from the true threat, the stinger tail...which to Marinelle, is a giant whip.

As you would expect, it isn't simply just a clump of threads. It is indeed used for lasting punishment, but to the General, a special kind must be used for the expectant soldiers of her newfound unit. The whip is not just a monstrosity in length, able to cover up to 3 metres depending on how the user swings it, but also covered with small holes, which will excrete venom and inflict the victim's skin upon contact. So far, she has been known to use two types...yet, contrary to what you might think, neither of them are lethal.

The first is the one she uses in combat, a venom that inflicts a stinging pain to any body part it comes into contact with. It can function too as a temporary paralyzer/tranqulizer, as the pain can sometime grow to such a great amounts, but it is usually temporary. The second type, however, Marinelle uses when she's personally disciplining her own units. This type of venom does not even cause pain, merely for you to become dizzy and lethargic, even if you took multiple doses. Granted, one would still feel physical pain from the lashes of the whip, but the venom otherwise does nothing harmful.

Immediately.

Most unfortunately, its side effects is where its true effect is revealed. Anyone who is struck with this victim will find that for a few subsequent days, they start to experience its withdrawl symptoms - feverish shivering, that constant burning sensation of the skin, and an extraordinarily low resistance to pain, making the simple brush of a finger feel like a knife skinning whole.

And indeed, this is Marinelle's idea of a LIGHT punishment. Any severe form of rebellion or disobedience, she would send the General of Uncertainty against you to truly break you, but that shall be put aside until we get to her. Any small forms of resistance, unwillingness, or even laziness, Marinelle uses the above methods to bring you under control. The punishment is not at all lethal, nor is it permanent. It's only the side-effects, after all...

The burning, painful reminder that you really don't want to disappoint The General of Certainty.

But with the certainty of punishment should you disappoint, there is also the certainty of wondrous rewards should you deliver. Strangely unfitting for her status as a Magical Girl, yet befitting of her old skeptic days, Marinelle does not heavily rely on magic. The venom in her whip is a specially concoction of such powers and neurotoxins, but there is one power she uses over her own subordinates, should they prove to have the same potential as her:

The Lance of Oblivion

Despite its name, it is not at all a physical weapon, rather a single strike of magic that in an instant, will remove all emotions, all intrusions to your mind, but most of all, all fear. For a given period of time, any target of this spell will have a mind free of any hesitation, and carry out their tasks with swift ease and brutal precision, a tool most useful for making subordinates obliterate an enemy, as well as turning instigators into fearless fools, unprepared for any sort of danger. As it stands, Marinelle herself feels no need to inflict it upon her own mind, for as far as she is concerned, she is already the standard.

For every enemy, she can predict how they shall attack. For every attack, she knows how to defend. For ever defense, she knows how to guard. And for every guard, she knows how to counterattack. Swift and calculative as she is, you may question her validity and perfection, and indeed, for the average human, it is acceptable to question. But to her, there is only Certainty. Certainty of her victory, and Certainty of your downfall. Certainty that you will fall, and Certainty that System-M shall stand forevermore...as will her rule.

"I can see that you are desperately conniving to power, struggling to keep victory in your palms. But the truth is you have no way of knowing what your eventual outcome will be, and whether right now you'll be lifting your head to my...our Utopia, or bowing down in hell. I do. Allow me to show you my proof..."
